AP Language and Composition (Period 5)

Course Description

The objective of this course is not only to ready the students for the AP test in May, but also to aide the students in becoming skilled readers of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts and in becoming skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes. However, the course will focus mainly on the reading of nonfiction texts and predominantly on the writing of expository, analytical and argumentative essays. Writing assignments will include both timed, in-class essays and process essays which will allow for extensive editing and revision. Reading will be college-level and these texts will be read for a depth of understanding and analysis consistent with the expectations of an entry level college composition class.
