In addition, answer the attached questions for chapter 1.

Complete the Socratic Seminar questions. Socratic Seminar & Dialectical Journal due Monday 4/25. Check out the link on Bloom's Taxonomy for ideas on writing your own questions!! Remember your questions should be on the levels of analysis, application, synthesis, and evaluation.

If you plan on retaking the Pronoun Case Test on Wednesday 4/13, you need to do the following:

 

1. Follow the link below to the reading on pronoun case. Read CAREFULLY!

2. Print and complete the attached worksheets. Bring them to class on Tuesday.

3. Practice for Wednesday's retake by completing the online quizzes ( same link below). Scroll down to the bottom of the page and there are two quizzes to help you practice!!!

Make sure your Dialectical Journals are completely filled out. Use the following link to take a quick quiz on Lay/Lie; Sit/Set. There is also a link to a quiz on active and passive voice.

If you received a 20 or lower on the Agreement Test, you are eligible to take the re-test on Wednesday after school. You must go to the link below and print and complete the subject verb agreement worksheet. Bring it with you on Wednesday. Also, click on the attachment and print the pronoun-antecedent agreement worksheet. Complete it as well and bring it with you Wednesday. I also suggest checking the Grammar tutorials available under my Grammar Link "List of Usage quizzes".

Study for summative assessment on chapter 6: "Using Pronouns correctly". There are two online quizzes available under my grammar links on who, whom, whose. Also, under my grammar links, go to the List of Usage Quizzes (also a link available below) and scroll down to the Pronoun case exercises (there are three of them). These will be very helpful for tomorrow's test.

Satirical cartoon on The Lowest Animal due Thursday. See the attached assignment sheet and sentence frame.

Find an example of satire on the internet (you can try The Onion) or watch a satirical show. Fill out the second sentence frame from the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint is attached.

In-class essay Monday. Essay prompt and outline are attached. Brainstorm 2-3 reasons in support of your position on telling the truth slant and two or more examples/facts in support of each reason. Print prompt and outline and bring it with you Monday. DO NOT write an essay over the weekend. You will not be able to use anything but a brainstorm/ tree map/ outline on Monday.

Benchmark tomorrow. Read "Reflective Essay' pages 360-369 in textbook. Define Glossary terms in  notebook.

Summative Assessment on chapter 4: The Clause tomorrow. See links on my homepage for online review quizzes.

Read "American Masters" and "Walt Whitman", textbook pages 299-309. Take Cornell notes on the reading which can be used on the quiz tomorrow. 

Answer Questions 4-12 on page 249 in your textbook on a separate sheet of paper.

Emerson Openmind: Read pages 179-180 "Ralph Waldo Emerson" and fill a blank head (draw on a white piece of paper) with phrases, symbols, words, and pictures that reflect Emerson's thoughts, beliefs, ideas and philosophies. 2 extra credit points if you make it pretty!

 

Vocabulary matrix: complete a vocabulary matrix for the vocabulary words on page 184 in miscellaneous section of your notebook.

Final essay due Monday after Thanksgiving break. You must have your rough draft!! Essay should have an interesting title, be in MLA format and be typed in Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced. Essay must be turned in Monday even if you are absent!!!

Passive/Active Voice worksheet.

Read chapters 9-11 in Huck Finn. Complete Costa's questions (2 questions for each level, 6 total, make sure to answer questions) for one of the chapters, a newspaper article on an event from one of the chapters, and a comic strip/story board for one of the chapters. You should one project for each chapter.

Complete the Emerson Aphorism project. See attached assignment, rubric, and aphorism list.

Read chapter 6 and write one question for each of Costa's Levels of questioning. See attached worksheet for information on Costa's Levels of Questioning.

Aphorism Project due Monday. Rubric attached. Read "The Rise of Realism" in IR pages 153 -161 and do the marginal notes.

Final drafts of essays are due tomorrow. Your essay MUST be turned in even if you are absent from school. Grammar test Thursday on chapter 6.

Print the attached Intro/Conclusion Sheet and complete. Rough draft of your essay is due Friday!!!
