Course overview and classroom expectations

hi my name is Michael from Iron and I am your students Civics teacher. Looking to high school I've attached to documents to my slide and video presentation first document has to do with distance learn classroom expectations for my civics class this is a one semester class difficult difficult we've never gone through anything like this the challenges of remote learning by way of Technology will require parental student and teacher engagement we've never done this before so have your student relax many people are anxious but that's because we haven't done this before so relax bear with me and away we go if you like it this. you will see the course objective evensi where to find the school calendar which would be in the student planner and if your student does not have one by now contact the office because they have one for every student the textbook for this class is Magruder's American government published Pearson this is the California version your student has this book at home and has access to this book online page of this document you'll see the classroom structure and responsibilities right now we're talkin Zoom meeting so we want them to be here on time I understand and there are some connection issues occasionally classroom expectations this is where I want to bring up a document before expectation for student behavior during distance learning I find this to be important you've seen it before the fundamental clued being respectful being responsible and being safe and those you read this again keep in mind if the safety of your student is Paramount alright let's take a look now if you'd like the slides you're about to look at are all photographs that I've taken over the last number of years in my travels cross this country I've been from coast to coast border to border up and down the rivers from City to City this nation is unbelievable it is beautiful and it is massive and the settlers of this country that developed this country we owe a lot to our founding fathers and our founding fathers free agent a blueprint for us to follow in the I often tell the student if you play a game you can't be real successful if you don't know the rule will the Constitution is laid out as the rules for our government in fact it tells us about the structure of our government the Constitution was incredibly call far. It is a living document I express to your student that three branches of government executive legislative and judicial and how those powers are separated the separation of power enabled the colonists to join in nb-1 head power we've got three groups federalism that's the sharing of power between the federal government and the states this is all spelled out in the Constitution I want your student to know it and understand it do they need to know every little not exactly but they certainly need more than an overview they need to understand it how it works how the pieces connect as citizens of this country this course is important because I tell your students all the time The Voice cannot be heard if you do not participate you have to vote Yes to participate in order for your voice to be heard and change to occur we're going through some tough times in this country it's not like we haven't been through tough times and we certainly are going to have tough times again in the future how do we get through it we come together We voice opinion remises very important I find it interesting that your stay understand compromise really well they understand that if I have an opinion and they have an opinion and we're unwilling in the slightest we're never going to make any progress I'm not always going to get what I want you're not always going to get what you want but let's both of us try and get some of what you want and compromised so that we can head together in your future a really bright future it's important that your student understands how do you fit into this future how the government is apart of them they are apart of the government sure they get the vote for the president but they're their strongest impact is in the local government they need to understand by the end of this semester did their participation is mandatory for the growth of the community they live in the city they live in the county they live in the state they live in the nation we all I'd love to spend a very long time talking to you about the information that I want your students to have the expectation I have for them of making meaning from text weather is from the textbook for speeches commentary they need to make meaning in order to be able to make informed decision and that's what we want for our students for our children want them to gather information so they can make informed decisions having said that I want to thank you very much for stopping by lending me sometime it's nice that you had the opportunity to view my presentation and listen to me speak thank you very much
