Regional Occupation Program (ROP)
Regional Occupational Programs (ROPs) are an integral part of the public education system in California. The purpose of the program is to provide high quality vocational and technical job training opportunities. Students in the Garden Grove Unified School District may also take ROP classes in the Orange and Santa Ana Unified School districts.

Enrollment in ROP classes is open to students 16 years of age or older or high school juniors and seniors. The number of credits earned per semester depends on the number of successfully completed hours of instruction in the ROP class. Upon successful completion of an ROP semester class or program, with a passing grade, five credits are issued for each 54 hours of instruction received, with a maximum if 15 credits per semester (162 hours). The total number of credits a student may earn in ROP may not exceed 30 unless prior approval is given by the principal. Successful completion of 10 credits from this program satisfies the applied arts graduation requirement. ROP is an excellent way for students who have an interest in a vocational or technical program to acquire these skills before graduating. ROP is also used by students who want an introduction to activities related to a specific career, to acquire training for a part-time job while attending high school or college, and for students who are behind in credits to make up elective credits lost earlier in their school careers. The spring semester ROP class schedule lists 116 classes most of which offer start times in the afternoon or evenings. See your counselor for more information.
