Aztec Pride Program

Aztecs of the Month
Staff members nominate students in grades nine through twelve to be considered for Aztec of the Month. The Aztec of the Month committee, composed of an administrator, teachers, classified staff, and students, selects two students each month from the nominations. Aztecs of the Month are selected for academic excellence, good citizenship, school involvement, and community and school service. Follow the Aztecs of the Month link above to view our outstanding Aztecs.

Aztecs of the Year
Each May teachers nominate six seniors, three boys and three girls, for Aztec of the Year. These students have excellent academic achievement, outstanding citizenship, and have contributed greatly to La Quinta through participating in athletics, activities and school service. Each nominee writes an essay about why he/she should be the Aztec of the Year. Teachers read the essays and vote for one boy and one girl for Aztec of the Year.

Aztec Pride Cards
Teachers give Aztec Pride Cards to students who do something extra special such as receive an A+ on a test, help out, or show improvement. Students take the Aztec Pride Card to the Student Store and exchange it for a treat. The card is then put into a basket for a monthly drawing. Each month the principal draws cards from the basket and awards prizes to owners of the winning cards.

Testing Incentives
During California Standards Testing time students are given free Smart Cookies and Aztec Juice to help them focus better during testing. In addition, students in each class that takes a CST test write their name on the back of a ticket. All tickets are turned in to the office and a drawing is held each day. Students can win prizes such as amusement park tickets, movie tickets, and IPODs.
Each spring the ASB sponsors an API Celebration to reward students for meeting our Academic Performance Index, which is based on the results of the California Standards Tests. Students have an extended lunch and the ASB hires a company to set up bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, a dunk tank and other activities for students to celebrate.

Perfect Attendance Award
Each spring, during our senior awards night, all students who have had four years of perfect attendance are recognized and receive a plaque.

Academic Letters
Students who earn a 3.5 or higher academic point average for three semesters receive a LQ academic letter. In subsequent semesters of 3.5 or higher APA these students receive a bar to put on their LQ letter. These awards are presented to students at an Academic Awards Luncheon in the fall and spring of each school year. The luncheon is held during the school day in the 200 lycuem. Family members and friends of award recipients are welcome to attend the luncheon. Click the above link for more information on criteria to receive an Academic award.
