WASC Accreditation
Accreditation by the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation process is
called Focus on Learning. The goal of this process is to evaluate a school’s
impact on student learning, as well as the effectiveness of the school’s
programs and its operation. On March 6, 7, and 8 of 2006 a WASC accreditation
team visited La Quinta High School.
Prior to the WASC visitation, La Quinta staff, students, and parents
continually met to discuss and evaluate the effectiveness of our programs in
the areas of vision, culture, curriculum, instruction, and assessment to
determine our strengths and our areas that need growth. The staff selected
three critical academic needs:
- Provide interventions and
support for underperforming students.
- Improve reading fluency and
comprehension across the curriculum.
- Improve stud
ents’ ability to
write effectively across the curriculum. -
La
Quinta High School is proud to announce that at
the end of the visitation, the WASC team awarded La Quinta High School a
six-year accreditation, the maximum term a school can receive.
La
Quinta had a mid-term review during the spring of 2009. Our faculty and staff prepared for this
review by meeting regularly to discuss progress made towards the WASC team’s
recommendations. The On-site Midterm Review visiting committee's report congratulated La Quinta for providing a quality education for our students and reaffirmed the school's accreditation for the remainder of the six year term, ending in June 2012.
